The first weeks of February 2026 turned into an intensive transatlantic sprint for anyone following smart utility and IoT space. Within a few days, two of the world's most influential energy and grid technology events opened their doors almost simultaneously: DTECH ® (formerly DISTRIBUTECH) in San Diego, California (February 2–5) and E-World Energy & Water in Essen, Germany (February 10–12). Walking both exhibition floors, the convergence of themes was striking. AI-powered grid management, advanced metering infrastructure (AMI), cybersecurity, distributed energy resources (DER), and above all, the continued rise of LPWAN connectivity and LoRaWAN® as a disrupting communication standard for utilities and smart infrastructure.

Tethered drones are rapidly expanding across surveillance, industrial inspection, public safety, and defense applications. By using a physical tether (optical fiber) instead of a wireless link, these platforms gain continuous power, secure communications and extended mission duration.

The industrial sector is experiencing a significant transformation as organizations strive to enhance operational efficiency, reduce costs and make informed, data-driven decisions. Sensor technology forms the backbone of this revolution, enabling the conversion of physical processes into actionable digital insights. Historically, traditional wired sensor deployments have posed considerable barriers to widespread monitoring due to high installation costs, ongoing maintenance requirements and infrastructure constraints.
