Semtech's Addition to the TClamp® Platform Provides Elevated Immunity against ESD, Surge and Other Overvoltage Threats

Semtech’s Latest Addition to the TClamp® Platform Provides Elevated Immunity against ESD, Surge and Other Overvoltage Threats for Industrial Applications

Optimized for surge and ESD immunity, Semtech’s TClamp3602P provides robust transient voltage protection for data circuits in harsh electrical environments

CAMARILLO, Calif., Nov. 26, 2019 – Semtech Corporation (Nasdaq: SMTC), a leading supplier of high performance analog and mixed-signal semiconductors and advanced algorithms, today announced the latest addition to its TClamp® platform. The two-line, 36V TClamp3602P offers industry-leading levels of protection against both surge and electrostatic discharge (ESD) in a small leadless package. This transient voltage suppression (TVS) array is optimized for safeguarding industrial data interfaces such as RS-485 and CAN from dangerous transient threats, while also minimizing capacitive loading on data interfaces.

Targeted at industrial applications where data lines reside in harsh electrical environments, the TClamp3602P offers an impressive 30A (8x20µs waveform) lightning surge immunity rating. The device also exceeds industry standard requirements for ESD protection, achieving ±30kV air and ±30kV contact per the IEC61000-4-2 ESD standard. Additionally, the TClamp3602P presents a low line-to-ground capacitance of less than 4pF and is housed in a small form factor 2.0 x 1.0mm QFN package.

“RS-485 data interfaces are prevalent in industrial systems. These interfaces often share the same conduits as industrial DC supply lines,” said Timothy Puls, Product Marketing Director for Semtech’s Protection Products Group. “With wiring or cable faults, the RS-485 link may come into contact with the 24V DC supply lines. The TClamp3602P is an ideal transient protection solution to safeguard RS-485 links from both transient voltage threats and electrical fault conditions.”

Key Features of the TClamp3602P

  • Transient protection for high-speed data lines to: IEC 61000-4-2 (ESD) ±30kV (contact), ±30kV (air); IEC 61000-4-4 (EFT) 40A (5/50ns); IEC 61000-4-5 (lightning) 30A (8/20μs)
  • 36V bi-directional working voltage protection
  • High surge capability: 30A (tp=8/20μs)
  • Protects 2 I/O lines
  • Low capacitance (<4 pF line-to-line)
  • QFN package: 2.0 x 1.0 x 0.55mm
  • Pb free and RoHS/WEEE compliant
