Semtech Demonstrates Industry’s First Bi-Directional CDR to Enable SFP28 Applications

Company Debuts Ultra Low Power, High-Performance CDR at OFC 2015 as Key Addition to Its Expansive and Industry-Leading Portfolio Platform

Camarillo, California - March 23, 2015

Semtech Corporation (Nasdaq: SMTC), a leading supplier of analog and mixed-signal semiconductors to the Optical Communications market, today announced the GN2139, its latest ultra-low power, high-performance 25Gb/s reference free bi-directional clock and data recovery IC.Generic

Consuming less than 90mW per lane, the GN2139 enables low-power <1W SFP28 optical module solutions.  Employing Semtech’s proprietary ClearEdge™ CDR technology, the GN2139 delivers outstanding total output jitter performance of less than 5ps.

As cloud-based services continue to expand rapidly, data center operators are expanding data center sites as well as upgrading existing facilities. Web-scale data centers, currently utilizing 10Gb/s links between servers and top of rack (ToR) switches, are looking to 25Gb/s as a cost-effective and efficient upgrade path.

"By leveraging our proven CDR technology, we are first to market with a robust SFP28 IC solution that meets the jitter and power demands of next-generation SFP28 applications,"  said Dr. Timothy Vang, senior director of marketing, Signal Integrity Product Group for Semtech. "This will enable our customers to begin SFP28 module development and prototypes today, giving them a critical time-to-market advantage."

The GN2139 will be featured in a live demonstration along with Semtech’s new GN3270 25G ROSA, utilizing Semtech’s GN1084 25G TIA, at Semtech’s OFC booth from March 24 to March 26.
