Semtech Expands Mobile Protection Platform with µClamp® 3321ZA – a TVS Protection Device for Safeguarding Sensitive 3.3V Devices

Semtech’s µClamp3321ZA protects portable devices such as smartphones, tablets, and wearable electronics from dangerous ESD transients

Camarillo, California - February 11, 2016 -

Semtech Corporation (Nasdaq: SMTC), a leading supplier of analog and mixed-signal semiconductors, today announced the µClamp® 3321ZA, a high-performance transient voltage suppression (TVS) device for protecting audio and low voltage interfaces. The single-line µClamp3321ZA offers a unique combination of features that protect increasingly sensitive interfaces such as the audio, uSIM and uSD ports found in today’s portable electronic devices.

Built on Semtech’s highly differentiated process technologies that achieve industry leading clamping voltages, the µClamp3321ZA delivers optimal transient protection for safeguarding devices operating at 3.3V. The µClamp3321ZA features low dynamic resistance, which provides fast response to transients, as well as best in class, low-clamping voltage to protect audio codecs from damage through audio jacks. It is housed in an ultra-small, fully-encapsulated package, which provides a more robust solution than conventional CSP (Chip Scale Package) solutions. In addition, the µClamp3321ZA extends the battery life of end-user applications by providing low reverse leakage current of <1nA (typical).

“As more and more interfaces on portable applications operate at 3.3V, it is essential to safeguard them with transient voltage suppressors that are specially designed to support low working voltages. The µClamp3321ZA offers superior protection in a tiny package,” said Rick Hansen, Product Marketing Director for Semtech’s Protection Products Group. “The µClamp3321ZA expands Semtech’s low voltage product family and gives customers peace of mind knowing that their products are well protected from ESD events.”

Key Features of the µClamp3321ZA

  • Transient protection for high-speed signal lines: IEC 61000-4-2 (ESD) ±17kV (air), ±15kV (contact)
  • 3.3V working voltage protection for audio and other low voltage interfaces
  • Low ESD clamping voltage of 10.5V at 8kV
  • Ultra-small package size: 0.6mm x 0.3mm with nominal height of only 0.25mm
  • Low typical dynamic resistance: 0.33 Ohms
  • Pb Free and RoHS/WEEE Compliant
