Semtech Launches E7804 Quad Pin Electronics Device, Bringing High-End Features to Low-Cost ATE SystemsHighly integrated device can increase throughput of testers and still deliver one of the lowest cost-per-channel ratios in the industry Camarillo, California - March 23, 2005 Semtech Corp. (NASDAQ: SMTC), a leading supplier of analog and mixed-signal semiconductors for communications, portable devices, computers, and industrial equipment, today announced availability of the E7804, a low power, four channel BiCMOS pin electronics IC that is designed to bring high-end features to low-cost logic, memory or mixed signal automated test equipment (ATE) systems.
Each channel also has its own programmable continuity test circuit (CTC). This allows for rapid, concurrent testing of continuity, shorts and opens on the device under test (DUT), saving the engineer from time consuming polling with external parametric measurement units (PMU). With CTC functionality on all channels, all active pins may be tested at the same time, increasing overall throughput for ATE applications. “The highly integrated, BiCMOS-based design of the E7804 gives our customers the features and performance they need to compete in an evolving yet cost-driven market,” said Tim Wilhelm, marketing director for test & measurement products at Semtech. “Not only is the feature set robust, but it is carefully chosen to yield the best cost per channel with important throughput enhancements for ATE systems.” The E7804 features timing accuracy that can eliminate the need for systems to employ additional and expensive timing measurement and deskew circuitry. Timing accuracies are specified over the entire range of process, voltage and temperature and all specifications are fully defined and guaranteed. High-voltage disconnect switches are available at each driver and window comparator to allow the ATE system to stress the DUT pins while protecting the driver and window comparator circuits. The disconnect switches are used in conjunction with external high-voltage PMUs to generate voltages outside the normal operating levels of the pin electronics, -4.75V to +9.75V. For rapid programming via serial data bus, the E7804 supports a PinCast methodology which again increases the throughput of testers by cutting down the time needed for individually programming all the hundreds to thousands of pin channels in a system. Any channel on the device can be independently assigned to any one, none or all of the eight possible sets. Subsequently, a single Set instruction can broadcast to all devices, and all pin channels assigned to that Set will program accordingly in unison. Key Features of the Edge7804

The E7804 tri-statable drivers operate up to 133 MHz at 3 volts with very low propagation delay dispersions due in part to on-chip self-calibrating output impedance circuitry to match the driven loads. The device can generate high quality signals over a range of -0.2 volts to +5.2 volts. Each channel on the device has a window comparator that is well matched in performance to the drivers for dispersion stability and high speed tracking.
